The ghost of “the artist formerly known as Prince” has descended from the heavens as identity politics have infiltrated natural landmarks, including lakes and rivers.
What’s in a name?
While the flavor of decade in the 2010’s was liberating Native Americans by replacing the names of European explorers on lakes, rivers and mountain ranges borrowing traditional tribal identifiers derived from ancient language, the spooky world of wanting to believe something in the absence of evidence. This movement also included sports teams. The current trend of confusion and popcorn worthy intrigue is now being broadcast from the White House on all bandwidths and spectrums as Trump has joined the reverse name game.
On the borders of a potential scandal, the President has apparently decided that Lake Ontario (the smallest of the Great Lakes) should be known as Lake America and is taking the proper procedural steps which has major connotations on the nation’s trade war with perturbed neighbor Canada. Throw in the Native American dynamic to the battlefield and meme artists now have fresh content for at least eight days, while activists are given a Nancy Pelosi sinister bobblehead to pelt the digital realm with hate encompassing a plethora of agendas that are as egregiously reckless as politicians from both sides tacking riders onto bills that would limit the infrastructure of government for the benefit of constituents. Reason is nullified and cancelled through bureaucracy and jaded dreams of foisted legacies forgotten over the course of a generation.
Under the tumultuous reign of Justin Trudeau, Canada was transformed from a nation state into a warped political enterprise that does not embrace freedom. In campaigning to rename the lake, Trump is simply executing a read and react method to combatting the will of an ideology that is relentless and nonsensical.
Whether the name be Paisley, Bruce, or Consuela, lakes identifying as rivers or corrugated metals of seashell telecom equipment, and men permitted to dominate women’s sports, the future is now but an illusion in the scheme that is life or simply a grift in pursuing happiness.
