Bangor, ME – A Maine college professor is under fire after allegedly mocking and attempting to silence a student over her support for gun rights and her Christian faith. Now, nearly 50 Republican lawmakers are demanding her immediate termination.
Katherine Parker, an early childhood education student at Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC), says her professor, Dr. Carol Lewandowski, crossed the line when she submitted a pro-Second Amendment essay for class. In response, Lewandowski reportedly lashed out in an email, writing: “You clearly do not care about people as much as you care about guns.”
When Parker refused to change her topic, the professor doubled down, bringing in college administrators to back her up.
According to Themainewire.com, this is not the first time that TDS-affected Professor Carol Lewandowski has run off the rails due to political issues;
“This is not the first time that Lewandowski has been absent from her class due to political issues — according to emails obtained by the Maine Wire, Lewandowski canceled class after the 2024 election, claiming that she was too upset about Donald Trump winning to teach, or to even “communicate in any way, shape, or form.”
Describing the woe of Trump’s electoral victory as akin to a “death in the family,” the 30-year EMCC professor offered in an email to her students a grave prediction that “the US is going to lose its glorious democracy, its stately presidency (again), its constitution, its global respect, its civil rights, its guiding light, its compassion for others, its respect for ‘facts’, and just our sense of humanity.”
“If you cannot respect my depression, despair, and general disgust, I think you are limited in your scope of ‘professionalism.’ I was grieving for our country. And I still am,” Lewandowski wrote.”
But Parker didn’t back down—and her story has now exploded across Maine and beyond.
“This isn’t just about my daughter,” said Laura Whitcomb, Parker’s mother and president of Gun Owners of Maine. “It’s about every student who’s been bullied into silence because their values don’t align with the radical left’s agenda on campus.”
Lawmakers aren’t holding back either. In a letter sent Monday, they slammed Lewandowski’s behavior as “intimidation” and called on EMCC to fire her. “There is no excuse for these comments,” the letter states. “We urge the system to fire this professor with immediate force and effect.”
Former Maine Governor Paul LePage also weighed in, blasting the professor for denying a student her right to express pro-gun and Christian views.
For now, EMCC says it is “investigating,” but college officials are tight-lipped about the outcome. Lewandowski is reportedly no longer teaching Parker’s class.
Another example of the hypocrisy of the tolerant left and a rallying cry for gun owners and free speech advocates alike.
“Freedom is dangerous,” Whitcomb added. “And only those willing to live dangerously deserve it.”
