Harmeet Dhillon To Be Nominated For Associate Attorney General

Harmeet Dhillon, currently head of the DOJ Civil Rights Division, is reportedly set to be nominated as Associate Attorney General as the Trump administration continues its Justice Department reshuffle.

According to reports from multiple news sources and independently verified by AmmoLand News, Harmeet Dhillon is set to be nominated by President Donald Trump as United States Associate Attorney General.

Dhillon currently serves as Assistant Attorney General, heading the Civil Rights Division—a position she was sworn into in April 2025. The nomination comes amid a broader Department of Justice reshuffle that began last week, when President Trump dismissed Attorney General Pam Bondi. Following Bondi’s departure, Todd Blanche was appointed as acting Attorney General. Shortly after, Stanley Woodward, the former Associate Attorney General, resigned.

Rumors suggested Lee Zeldin, EPA head, would be nominated as Attorney General, but White House sources told AmmoLand News that Zeldin declined. No permanent replacement is currently planned.

Ms. Dhillon, a prominent conservative lawyer and founder of Dhillon Law Group, is known for her high-profile civil rights and free speech litigation. She has represented pro-life undercover journalist David Daleiden, whose undercover videos of Planned Parenthood officials sparked national controversy and multiple legal cases. Dhillon has also represented several detransitioners and successfully sued the University of California, Berkeley, over free speech policies. She has taken legal action against Antifa-affiliated organizations after the group attacked and assaulted a conservative journalist. Additionally, she sued several states during the pandemic over restrictive COVID-19 policies and filed multiple lawsuits against major tech companies for alleged civil rights violations.

Dhillon’s longtime professional relationship with David Warrington further underscores her deep ties within conservative legal circles. Warrington served as a partner at Dhillon Law Group. The two collaborated on significant cases, including representing former President Trump related to the January 6 investigation and ballot eligibility challenges. Warrington has also defended other Trump allies. He was later appointed by President Trump as White House Counsel. Dhillon has publicly expressed pride in Warrington’s appointment. She has highlighted their shared commitment to conservative legal advocacy.

In her current role as head of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, Dhillon has been a staunch advocate for Second Amendment rights.

She frequently emphasizes that “the Second Amendment is not a second-class right.” In late 2025, she oversaw the creation of a dedicated Second Amendment Rights Section within the division, designed to enforce and protect gun owners’ constitutional rights against state and local infringements. Under her leadership, the division has filed affirmative lawsuits for gun owners, including a suit against Los Angeles County over excessive delays in concealed carry permit processing, which violated Supreme Court precedents.

The DOJ has also sued the District of Columbia over its ban on semi-automatic firearms. It has submitted amicus briefs supporting challenges to restrictive gun laws in states such as Illinois (assault weapons bans), Massachusetts (handgun rosters), Hawaii, and California (ammunition restrictions).

Dhillon has prioritized hiring and training attorneys specifically for Second Amendment litigation. Her ambitious goal is to challenge and eliminate unconstitutional state regulations inconsistent with recent Supreme Court rulings by the end of her tenure.

As a firearms owner, she has publicly committed the Civil Rights Division to treat the right to keep and bear arms with the same vigor as other fundamental civil rights. Dhillon promises “a lot more action” on gun rights enforcement.
